Spend a few hours with friends or make new ones as you learn a new art form, craft or skill in this welcoming format for people of all skill levels.

early spring acrylic painting:

landscape through photos

With Eleanore

Ages: Adults

Class Time: 10:00am - 12:00pm

Dates: Mondays 4/13, 4/20, 4/27, 5/4

Come and paint your own photos in this 4 week acrylic painting class! Learn how to translate an image into a painting, tell a story or convey an emotion by experimenting with color, composition and subject matter. With color mixing demos and sketches we will break down the basics that make up a painting, and build from there! You will get the chance to zoom in or out of this process and find what works best for you. All levels welcome - this class is great for those who are just beginning and those who wish to keep building on what they know!

Block prints

Join us as we explore the process of block printing! We'll focus on techniques using rubber block carving and printing that invite you to layer, arrange, and experiment with color and composition. Throughout the session, we’ll work with a diverse selection of papers to discover how texture, weight, and tone can transform your prints. This class is designed for beginners and those with some printmaking experience.

In this 4 session class we will explore the exciting and diverse art of collage, creating work that goes beyond simply cutting out and arranging images from magazines! Our primary focus will be on learning various collage techniques to create depth and dynamic compositions using hand painted and printed papers and other unique materials.

In this 4 session class we will practice using drawing as a mode of record keeping. Drawing from memory, drawing from observation, and telling the story of our days, we will use a variety of prompts and formats to explore keeping a drawn diary. This class will include some observational drawing skills, but that will not be central to the class. No drawing experience necessary.

Come experience the delight of watercolor painting combined with drawing fundamentals to help you create your own beautiful works of art! This 6 session class has something for everyone, whether you’re a beginner eager to learn or an experienced artist ready to build on your existing skills.


In each session, we’ll focus on essential drawing techniques: creating volume through shading, using negative space to define forms, and developing keen observation through contour drawing. These skills will form a strong foundation for your watercolor work.

During the second part of class, we’ll explore the expressive possibilities of watercolor. Beginners will discover what the medium can really do, while returning students will deepen their skills through new techniques each week. We’ll work from simple still life arrangements, giving you the chance to experiment and apply what you’ve learned in vibrant, personal ways.This class is designed for both new and returning students.

early spring figure drawing:

Class Time: 7:30 - 9:30pm

Dates: Thursdays 4/16, 4/23, 4/30, 5/7

In this 4 session class we will explore figure drawing from the live nude model. Beginner to experienced drawers are invited to join for this class focused on honing in on shading and tone, noticing how we can use our charcoal and erasers in different ways and get more specific in building the body.

We will mostly be working in charcoal, and all materials will be provided, but students are also welcome to bring their own additional drawing supplies. ​Students who have taken this class before are welcome, as material will be tailored to class participants, whether just beginning or building on existing skills.​

This 4 session class is a place to see what can happen on a piece of paper. Using a different prompt each week we will explore color, markmaking, destruction and layering to create drawings. This is a space to play on the page, to notice what you are drawn to, what your hand automatically wants to do, and to get in the practice of seeing where your line will take you.

In this 4 week class you will be painting from still-life objects. You will learn how to simplify and prioritize details, identify contrast, mix desired colors, and experiment with the composition of an image. Using arranged scenes and objects as the base for all the projects, you will also explore ways to find inspiration in the scenes you paint, and how to keep building on what excites you. You will have opportunities to choose what you paint, and share in the process with the whole class. All levels welcome - this class is great for those who are just beginning and those who wish to keep building on what they know!

monoprints

Class Time: 10:00am - 12:00pm

Dates: Thursdays 5/28, 6/4, 6/11, 6/18

Throughout this 4 week class you will learn about the fundamentals of creating a monotype, using plexiglass and ink rollers. You will learn three techniques frequently used for monotypes, experimenting with color, layering, mark making and composition. You will explore what it means to produce an immediate and one of a kind print. 

 

All levels are welcome and all materials provided!

Class Time: 7:30 - 9:30pm

Dates: Thursdays 5/14, 5/21, 5/28, 6/4

In this class we will learn the basic tools and concepts for making simple and effective hand drawn animations. We will be drawing by hand on paper - not using any electronics but our smartphones to compile and lightly edit. We will let drawings transform on our pages, and will practice noticing movement and change around us. Join me to make a short and sweet drawn animation, and to get comfortable making many more. (Realistic drawing abilities are not necessary for this class.)

late winter continuing collage

Designed for returning students, this NEW 6 week course offers the opportunity to deepen your mixed media and collage practice through continued experimentation and creative growth. Our primary focus will be on various collage techniques and creating compelling compositions using hand painted papers and other unique materials. We will also spend some time making prints with rubber blocks to incorporate into our collage work.

This class is designed for students who have taken at least one collage class with us before (at any point), or who have introductory level experience with printmaking and/or collage. Material will be tailored to class participants as they build on existing skills.

Come experience the joy of watercolor and discover how you can use this medium to create your own beautiful paintings! This 4 session class has it all: instruction for beginners as well as the opportunity for those with previous experience to build on their existing skills. This class will begin with an exploration of the materials to uncover what watercolors can really do (for those who are new to watercolors) and then each week students will learn new skills and techniques to enhance their work. We will work from objects arranged in simple still lives each week.

 

This class is also appropriate for those of you who have taken watercolors with us before, as you will be able to build on what you have already learned!

prompts + practice

Class Time: 12:15 - 1:45pm

Dates: Thursdays 2/26, 3/5, 3/12, 3/19

Join us to build a drawing practice. In this 4 week class we will work with prompts and suggestions, and will have space to take them in our own directions. Each week we will investigate some different reasons and ways to draw, and will come to see drawing as a tool with so many incredible functions. We can draw to record our lives, to collaborate with others, to see what images live in our visual memories. We can draw to slow down and observe, to practice quickness and recklessness, to notice change over time, and to chill out. We will learn some observational drawing skills and will prioritize drawing as an experiential process. 

 

This class is for people of any experience level who are excited to draw.

Join us as we explore a variety of printmaking techniques in this 4 session class! Printmaking will invite you to layer, arrange and experiment with color and composition. We will use a variety of papers as our printing surface as we explore gelli plate printing and monoprints. We will also use stencils, and carve stamps to create beautiful prints. All levels welcome!
