Welcome to today!  In this class we will make art all about daily life, and what happens to us from sunrise to sunset and back to sunrise. We will explore the transformations that happen over time, from one day to a whole year. We will invent characters of our own, and discover what their day to day is like - from a raccoon who plays piano at sunset every night to a mermaid who grows a new pair of wings every morning.

Inspired by our daily lives and our wild imaginations, we will create comics, paint, make books, and build sculptures of objects we can use every day.

On Thursdays this spring we will explore the concept of many small pieces coming together to make a whole. We’ll make miniature tile mosaics, create a collaborative mural, think up creatures that are made of many different parts, delve into pattern making with stamps, and think up stories that are made up of many different segments. Through our art, we’ll explore the fact that we ourselves are marvelous mosaics made up of innumerable experiences, thoughts, and feelings. Join us for the week to make art that is greater than the sum of its parts!

If red turned into a character, what would it look like? What kind of creature could we create using a box of springs? What kind of adventures would these creatures get up to? In this class we’ll engage with character-making through different mediums: sculpture, painting, drawing, and textiles. We will let our characters live out their stories through comics, zines, and stop-motion animations. Students will have the freedom to create as many characters and stories as they want, or to make iterations of the same character with every material.

Join us on Fridays to create characters and creatures!
