AFTER SCHOOL CLASSES
fall 2026
fall program notes
In response to family feedback, we have made a few changes to our After School schedule, including two, shorter classes on Fridays for focused art time, rather than one longer class. These classes are designed for artists who are excited to take a deeper dive into art, but maybe do not want or need the longer 2 or 2.5 hour classes.
We have not changed the structure of our Monday-Thursday classes, and those still start with time for children to have snack, enjoy books solo or read to them by our teachers, and participate in open-ended art activities so they can decompress from school.
Students and teachers then come together for a meeting to start the activity of the day only after everyone has arrived and had time to settle in, usually closer to 3:45 or 4pm (we let the children guide the timing).
So if your child's school lets out later, they can still join the class and not miss anything, as long as they arrive by 3:45 or so.

MONDAYS
studio to gallery
with Christie
Ages: 2nd - 5th Graders
Class Time: 3:00-5:30pm
Dates: 9/14/26 - 12/21/26
In this class we'll explore what it means to be an exhibiting artist! Students will learn about how artists put together a show, how curators design shows and gallery spaces, even how they install work! Students will of course also create their own works of art (we'll explore a variety of media, and students will choose which one they'll use for their displayed pieces). We'll partner with galleries around the neighborhood including 440 Gallery, and the class will culminate in an exhibit and artists' reception at Spoke the Hub, which will remain up for the month of January! This class will also include some walking field trips to local galleries.

prints, patterns and paint!
with Christie + Eleanore
Ages: K-1st Graders
Class Time: 3:00-5:00pm
Dates: 9/15/26 - 12/22/26
Come explore the magic of patterns and printmaking in art! In your day to day life you might see polka dotted socks on somebody sitting next to you on the train, teeny tiny stripes when you look closely at a leaf, and zig zags on the bottom of your sneakers. Patterns are all around us! In this class we'll create monoprints, collographs, block prints and more, layering our work with our paintings and drawings. We will get inspired by artists like Gustav Klimt, Lynne Drexler and Matthew Wong who used patterns as the foundation of their art practices, making an ordinary vase come alive, or a forest look like millions of dots.

And, metaphorically, we’ll collect colors by doing paint mixing exercises, we’ll make painting series, and we’ll collect images from the world around us by doing a photography project. Join us on Wednesdays as we collect artistic experiences together!

We will explore how paper can be molded, adorned, and utilized. In this class we will be inspired by artists such as Aimee Lee, Amanda Degener, Nnenna Okore, and more as we discover the many ways that paper is beautiful, holdable, and full of potential!

free community weaving event!
Ages: 1.5+
Time: 1:00-4:00pm
Date: 10/18/25
Do you have extra camp t-shirts from the summer, old t-ball jerseys from last spring, or ill-fitting community team-building tees that you're looking to get rid of? Join us for an epic upcycling event where we work together to turn unwanted items into a gorgeous collaborative weaving! We'll have tables set up to show you how to create "t-shirt yarn" from old clothing, as well as extra on hand in case you've already passed on all your old t-shirts! Our teachers will then help artists of all ages weave on either our large-scale standing tapestry loom, or one of our small table looms.
Sign up is not required, but our space is small, so artists may have to wait to weave if they pop by and we are at capacity.

fall 2025
fall program notes
In response to family feedback, our After School classes now start earlier, at 3pm. The first part of class, however, is time for children to have snack, enjoy books solo or read to them by our teachers, and participate in open-ended art activities.
School can be a LOT and students need time to decompress!
Please note, our hourly rate has also stayed the same from last year, but the fall semester is longer than the winter and spring, and we have lengthened all of our afterschool classes to offer more support for families. Our classes also meet on all single day holidays, so you can continue to count on that coverage.
