We understand that sometimes things come up that make it no longer possible for your child to attend class with us. But we ask that you also understand that late cancellations mean we are unlikely to be able to fill the space in the class, but have already made arrangements for staff and materials.

You have two options for cancellation:

1. Receive a Credit (Amount paid - a 10% cancellation fee) up to 48 hours prior to the start of class.

2. Receive a Refund (Amount paid - a 10% cancellation fee) up to 4 weeks prior to the start of class.

You are also always welcome to sell your spot to someone else, we just ask that you let us know in advance who will be taking your spot.

What if my child misses a class?

We cannot offer makeup classes at this time, as each after school class is different and working on different projects for multiple sessions at a time. We are also not able to offer refunds for missed classes. Your child's teacher will do all they can to make sure your child is caught up when they return to class.

If your child misses more than 2 days of classes due to illness, however, please reach out so that we can put together a take home kit of art materials for the classes your child has missed.

Can we sign up for just select days of camp?

Not at this time. This program is designed as a 5 day program where we will be working on projects throughout the week, rather than single day activities.

Do you offer school pickups?

We will! Currently, we are able to offer pickup from PS10 everyday, PS107, and PS39 and PS321 on select days.

If your child's school is not listed, or is not listed for the day you're interested in, please send us an email and we'll do our best to accommodate your request!
 
Please be sure to register separately for each school pickup.

What if my child misses a class?

As the midwinter break camp is only one week, we cannot offer makeup classes or refunds for missed days at this time. Your child's teacher will do all they can to make sure your child is caught up when they return to class.

Yes. Everything your child needs to participate in the class is covered by the registration fee.

What should my child wear to class?

Mess is often part of the process and part of the fun of making art. Please send your child in comfortable clothes that can get messy.
 
We will also have aprons for your child to wear to protect their clothes, but an apron is often no match for a child's creative gusto.

Should my child bring a lunch?

Yes. We will have lunch each day at camp. Please send them with a lunch that does not need to be refrigerated.

We also suggest children bring a water bottle and snack to all programs.

Why are different days different prices?

Accepted Answer

Each semester, we price our classes based on the number of times they meet, and the length of the class. So our classes for 2-5th graders are a little more, because they meet for 30 minutes longer than our other classes.

We also don't charge you for any days we are not in session, so if a holiday or break falls on the day of the week your class meets, you'll see a lower price for both the class and the school pickup.

Will you be bringing the children outside during camp?

Hopefully! Outside time is important. We will be leaving The Art Annex space for some run around time and games after lunch each day, weather permitting.

Recognizing that the camp IS taking place in February, however, we recognize the weather may not cooperate. If the weather is bad, we will do our best to venture out each day, even if it means rearranging the schedule, and even if it's just for a walk around the block.

We also offer a refer-a-friend credit! For every friend you refer to The Art Annex who registers for a class, we'll add a $20 credit to your account as a thank you. Just make sure your friend writes your name in the "how did you hear about us" section when they register. There is no limit to the number of friend credit you can earn, and credit with us does not expire.

What does a day look like at camp?

What should my child bring to camp?

For day camp, we ask that your child wear clothes they can get messy (though we do have aprons in the space if they would like to wear one) and bring a water bottle, a snack and a lunch. We do not have the ability to refrigerate lunches, so please send them with an ice pack, or items that do not need to remain cold.

Special stuffies that help our younger campers feel comfortable are of course welcome to come to camp!

We ask that they leave any electronics either at home, or safely stowed in their bags during camp.

Will you be bringing the children outside during camp?

Yes! Outside time is important. Our Day Camps will be leaving The Art Annex space for lunch and some run around time and games in Prospect Park every day, weather permitting.

What does "rising" mean in the age description?

Accepted Answer

"Rising" means that is the grade they will be entering in the fall.

A "rising Kindergartener" is a child who just completed PreK and will be starting Kindergarten in the fall of 2025 (turning 5 by 12/31/25).

We set the ages for our camps intentionally, carefully factoring in the developmental phases of children. Our goal in setting age ranges is to set every camper up for success, helping to ensure they love their time at camp with us!

Do you offer Drop In Classes?

We do! We offer drop in options for any of our Early Childhood classes that are not full. Drop In registration opens the first day of the semester.

Simply click here or on the "Drop In Class" button beside the class you are interested in to register. The class fee includes one adult and one child.

You can register for as many drop in classes as you like, there is no limit.

We cannot accommodate refunds or credits for missed drop-in classes at this time.

Advanced registration for drop in classes is required, we cannot accommodate drop-ins at the door/at the time of class.

What if my child misses a class?

We are not able to offer refunds for missed classes unless we cancel a class.

Each enrolled family can schedule 2 makeup classes per semester. If you enroll in a class, you'll be given instructions for how to schedule a makeup, should you miss a class. Makeups are permitted as space allows and are on a first come, first served basis.

Makeups must be scheduled for the same semester in which you are enrolled. They do not carry over to future semesters.

Drop-in classes are not eligible for makeups, credit, or refunds.

Does a grownup have to attend classes with my child?

For our Early Childhood Classes (ages 1.5-5) we do ask that a grownup stay with your child for the duration of class. Our teachers lead each session, but having the child's grownup stay not only helps the child feel comfortable, it also offers adults tools and techniques for continuing art experiences at home. Also, sometimes the adults choose to join in the fun and make art too!

How do the semesters work?

With the goal of creating classes that are at different price points and therefore accessible to more families, we split the semester into two parts: Semester A and Semester B.

You can register for just one, or both (register for both at the same time for a discount!).

Possibly! We want to work with families to create a meaningful art experience for everyone attending our classes. So if you would like to bring a child's sibling who is outside the age group listed in the description, please just email us: info@theartannexbrooklyn.com. If they are within the age group, please just sign them up for a drop in that day.

Yes. All materials are included in the cost of the class. For portfolio classes, students may be asked to being in past or current work from home to work on during the class, but no additional materials need to be purchased. The fee for models for any figure drawing session is also covered in the class tuition.

Unless a class is listed as being the second in a series, or marked as being designed for artists of a more advanced level, the answer is no!

Because our calendar is quite full and we only run one of each type of class at a time, we are not able to offer makeup classes for our adult classes. We also are not able to offer credit or refunds for missed classes. If you know you'll be missing class, please just send us an email (info@theartannexbrooklyn.com), and we will reach out to the teacher to coordinate some extra time to get you caught up at the beginning or end of your next class.If you know in advance you'll need to miss several classes, we recommend signing up for a different one. We typically run several of each class per year so hopefully a future class will be a better fit for your schedule!
